1. Information We Collect

We collect information in three ways: information from your Google account, information you voluntarily provide, and information generated by your use of the site.

A. Information from Google Sign-In

When you create an account using Google, we receive the following from your Google profile:

• Email Address: Used for account identification and to determine administrative privileges. Your email is never displayed publicly.
• Google Account ID: A unique identifier we use to link your account across sessions.

B. Information You Provide

To ensure anonymity and gather meaningful demographic data, we require you to complete your profile. This includes:

• Anonymised Username: A randomly generated username. You can regenerate this at any time on your profile page.
• Profile Data: Year of birth, state of residence, gender, highest education, and career stage. This data is used for aggregated, anonymised research and is never linked to you personally.
• Content: Any stories, comments, or images you voluntarily submit to the platform.
• Preferences: Your feed preferences and your consent choice for third-party research.

C. Information from Your Activity

• Interactions: We record which stories you vote on, bookmark, or comment on to provide your "Activity" page.
• Session Information: We use secure, server-side sessions stored in Google's Firestore database to keep you logged in.

2. Anonymity and Content Responsibility

Our Core Promise: We are committed to protecting your anonymity. Your Google email, Google Account ID, and any other personally identifiable information are never displayed publicly or shared. All stories and comments are posted under your randomly generated, anonymous username.

Your Responsibility: You are solely responsible for the content you post. To protect yourself and others, **do not include names, specific locations, workplaces, or any other identifying details in your stories or comments.** While constructive anecdotes are encouraged, our moderators reserve the right to remove any content that could identify or harm an individual or organisation.

3. How We Use Your Information

• To Operate the Service: To create and secure your account, display your anonymous content, and allow you to interact with the site (vote, comment, bookmark).
• To Improve the Platform: We analyse usage patterns to understand what's working and what isn't, helping us improve the user experience.
• For Aggregated Research: If you provide consent, we may share your anonymised profile data (e.g., year of birth, state, education) along with story content for third-party research by institutions or government agencies aiming to improve the Malaysian biotech ecosystem. Your username, email, and any other direct identifiers are *never* included in this data. Stories marked with a ⭑ (Curhat, KitaJagaKita) are also excluded from research data.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely on Google's Firebase Firestore, a cloud-based database with industry-standard security measures. We have implemented appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your information from unauthorised access or disclosure.

5. Your Data Rights and Choices

You have control over your personal information.

• Access & Correction: You can view and edit your profile information (username, year of birth, etc.) at any time on your profile page.
• Content Control: You can hide, re-publish, or permanently delete your own stories directly from the story's modal window. You can also delete your own comments.
• Consent: You can change your research consent preference at any time on your profile page. This change will apply to all future data sharing.
• Account Deletion: You may request the permanent deletion of your account and all associated content. Please contact us at the email below to initiate this process.

6. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes. Your continued use of KisahBio MY after such changes constitutes your acceptance of the new policy.
